(it was) the summer of the motorcycle

I was in love, I was indestructible. I thought I had it figured out this time.
1

At the end of February I made a contract with myself (on the recommendation of Philip Weinrobe) to put out a collection of songs on the re-branded Seventeen oh, Ate (formerly Creek House Records).

Today on my birthday, I fulfil the promise to myself. And despite me not being happy with one of the vocals (which I might pull a Kanye and switch out), I guess this is the best that I can offer for now.

I hope you enjoy.

  1. title track

it was the summer of the motorcycle, I was in love, I was indestructible. I thought I had it figured out this time.

  2. one day

you count the till, you mop the floor, you close the lights, and fuck off. you unlock the door, and no ones home, you run a bath, and get stoned. One day you won't need that shit to sleep. you will lay in it, and you won't care. right? you ride your bike, back to his house, you break his heart, on the porch. you don't look back, you hate the thought. you wish it'd stop, but it won't. One day you won't think about it, it'll be a dream you half remember.

  3. delaware
early evening, a car alarm goes off. double back and check the door is locked. the bus drives past my dumb luck. the wind kicks snow in my face. I trace the outline of your frame, in the dirty window pane. and I wonder where you are. jean jackets, crowd around the bar. nursing strong beer as the band plays. well damn these kids, they talk too loud. and how they get. on your nerves. I trace the outline of your name. in the ring stain of my pint. and I wonder, where you are. the city empties, and my friends have left. clutching quarters that will take me home. I lean my head up against the glass. close my eyes, admit defeat. I type the letters of your name. in the light of my phone. and I wonder where you are.

  4. hiding
kipling headed south, bathurst to your house. taking refuge for the weekend. hiding bits of self, littered in every word, spilling affections on the floor. I like the melody of your laugh, and how you are glowing from the beer. push pins on the map, announcing future plans, adjusting posters fill the air. I don't know how I got to you, I guess there's still some magic left.
